Zea Mays Printmaking/Beginning Monotype

Beginning Monotype

Monotypes, one of a kind prints, are called “The Painterly Print” because they are direct impressions of drawn, painted and manipulated inks.  This course will introduce participants to all of the elements of making monotypes: tools, inks, papers and printing (without a press).

The course is organized around the elements of art as they are expressed in monotype:
  • Line through the exploration of additive, subtractive and trace monotype techniques;
  • Shape working with edge control and stencil use;
  • Value and Color while learning about ink modification and layering;
  • Composition and expressive content as all of these elements are used together.

After taking this course, you’ll have the skills to make gorgeous painterly prints on your own.

This course is designed for beginners or those who want a refresher course in the use of Akua Intaglio inks, monotype techniques and the elements of art. The course includes demonstrations, discussion of art works, inspirational slide shows and printable pdf instructions.
