Beginning Woodcut


Woodcut offers a direct and deeply engaging approach to creating unique images that can stand alone or be used in combination with other media. This eco-friendly, method of carving into wood and printing on paper gives artists the tools to make exciting, graphic editions of prints.

In this course you will learn the basics of carving and printing woodcuts at home without a press.  You will learn about different woods, tools and approaches to imagery. Demonstrations include how to prepare a block, tool use and maintenance, carving, ink handling and printing by hand.

The course includes demonstrations, discussion of art works, inspirational slide shows and pdf instructions.

This course is designed for beginning woodcut artists, or those who have worked in other print mediums and want to expand into wood.
