Zea Mays Printmaking/Relief Meets Intaglio

Relief Meets Intaglio

This tutorial is an introduction to working with Sintra plates, a PVC board that is very versatile. You can carve them with wood or linoleum tools and/or incise them with drypoint tools. The plates can be filled with lively combinations of carved imagery and incised lines that translate the texture and tones of a drawing tool. The imagery in this repeatable plate could be made into a small edition of prints, but can also be fun to work with as a starting point for one-of-a-kind prints. Through the use of colored inks and multi-plate monotype layers and stencils, these plates can yield a beautiful monoprint series.
